Various side effects of Dostinex (Cabergoline) can be either mild or serious ones. Mild side effects reported by some patients include headaches, dizziness, weakness and fatigue, vomiting, nausea, indigestion, constipation, and heartburn. All these side effects remain for a short period of time and are not so worrisome. However, you need to consult your doctor if they last for long and start to bother you.

 

Serious side effects of Dostinex rarely occur and call for immediate medical attention upon their occurring. These adverse effects signal a potential complication demanding medical treatment. You must stop using this drug right away and inform your doctor if you experience changes in your behavior such as aggression, heightened sexual drives, confusion, hallucinations, depression, or mood or mental changes. Some other serious side effects may include fainting, shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, vision problems, sudden and undetermined weight gain, an irregular heartbeat, or swelling of the hands or feet.

 

There are also cases when people have a serious hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to Dostinex (Cabergoline). In such cases, people may have symptoms such as swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat, hives, shortness of breath, wheezing, severe itching, or tightness in the chest. Any kind of allergic reaction should be taken seriously as the patient could get shocked and lose consciousness. Emergency medical help must be sought in case of a severe allergic reaction.

 

People with certain ailments are not recommended to use Dostinex (Cabergoline). These ailments include hypertension not checked by drug or treatment, a history of scarring disorders of heart, lungs and abdomen, heart valve problems, or liver problems. People who were allergic to drugs such as ergot derivatives previously should stay away from Dostinex as yet another severe reaction could be on the cards.

 

Side effects of Dostinex (Cabergoline) may get aggravated further if it is taken simultaneously with other drugs such as macrolide antibiotics (clarithromycin). The effectiveness of Dostinex diminishes in patients who are also taking butyrophenones, metoclopramide, thioxanthenes, or phenothiazines.
