Cabergoline under the brand name Dostinex is a powerful dopamine receptor agonist that inhibits the production of a hormone called prolactin in the pituitary gland. Prolactin is primarily responsible for breast milk production in women. Excess prolactin levels in the blood lead to a condition called hyperprolactinemia. Dostinex (Cabergoline) is meant for oral administration and contains 0.5mg of Cabergoline which is the active ingredient in this medication. There are also some inactive ingredients that contain leucine, USP, and lactose, NF.

 

Dostinex (Cabergoline) is indicated for the treatment of certain hormone imbalances. It is used to treat hyperprolactinemic disorders, either idiopathic or because of pituitary adenomas. By reducing the levels of prolactin hormone in the blood, Cabergoline lowers the production of breast milk, excluding the after childbirth stage or postpartum.

 

Dostinex may also be indicated for some other health ailments. It is used for monotherapy of Parkinson’s disease in its early stage.
